Golden Milk Spice Mix

I make different plant-based milk beverages and smoothies quite often. I love the nutritional benefits they provide. Having a spice mix ready makes the preparation so much easier. My Spiced Turmeric Latte is a perfect example and the reason I created my Golden Milk Spice Mix. This spice mix works for the latte and also for my Golden Milk Smoothie!

Red onions aren’t as pungent as yellow cooking onions and pickled, they work deliciously in so many ways - toss them in your salad to add a delicate zest, add them to your sandwich or wrap, use them in your savoury cooking recipes, add them to your burger, tacos or burritos or serve as a side.

Cranberry Chia Sauce

Cranberry sauce - some people love it and some people pass on it altogether. While I love a tart cranberry juice mixed with sparkling water, I find traditional, and especially commercial, cranberry sauce too sweet for my taste, so I make a healthy Cranberry Chia Sauce instead, keeping it very simple with very little processing and sweetened with a bit of maple syrup. What is leftover after Thanksgiving is wonderful as a jam – a slice of baguette with a bit of brie topped with some cranberry chia sauce – delish!

Flax Egg

Flax eggs – like chia eggs – isn’t egg at all but rather a healthy egg substitute in vegan baking. A hen’s egg adds leavening (rising), binding, flavour and colour to a baked good where a flax egg or chia egg adds the binding but no rising of the batter. Flax eggs are best used in coffee cakes, pancakes, muffins and squares – baked goods that do not need a lot of rising.

Basic Easy Marinara Sauce

Marinara sauce is one of easiest tomato sauces you can make. My marinara takes less than a half hour to make and is a bit of a hybrid sauce in regards to flavour as I add onion, a bit of anchovy paste (easily omitted for a vegan or vegetarian marinara), both basil and oregano and I add parsley too. It is still lighter than a traditional tomato sauce and it is delicious!
