Cottage Cheese Strawberry Milkshake Smoothie

Cottage cheese has been trending lately, being used as a main ingredient in pasta dishes, salads, cookies, cakes, ice cream, dessert bowls, even body care. And smoothies!

In this perfect-for summer absolutely delicious and ridiculously easy to make shake/smoothie recipe, the cottage cheese replaces the protein powder used in so many smoothie recipes, it helps to thicken the smoothie to the milkshake consistency and there is not even a hint of a taste of cottage cheese – it has such a mild flavour to begin with which makes it ideal to use in a smoothie.

Frozen strawberries are available at most every grocery store and they are affordable. If you pick-your-own strawberries and have frozen them, lucky you!

Strawberries are low in calories, contain fiber, potassium, calcium and iron. Fresh strawberries contain VitC and folate. They are an anti-inflammatory fruit and an antioxidant and are good for vascular function thereby supporting heart health.

Bananas are an antioxidant and a rich source of fiber, VitB6, VitC and potassium.  Bananas are relatively low on the glycemic index based on their ripeness – the sugar content increase as the fruit ripens as the starch in the banana turns to natural glucose, fructose and sucrose.  The antioxidant flavonoid catechin is beneficial for heart health.

Cottage cheese is a mild flavoured fresh soft, white cheese with a mild flavor offered widely at retail with different milk fat levels. Cottage cheese is a rich source of protein, is low in calories, with many nutrients, such as calcium, various BVits, phosphorus and selenium.

As always, when you make this delicious recipe, I would love to see your creation so please post a photo of your Cottage Cheese Strawberry Milkshake Smoothie goodness and tag my IG account #RenataCollective or leave a comment with your thoughts!

Prep Time: 5 Minutes /  Makes: 2-4 servings depending on glass size

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Oat Milk (or milk of choice)

  • 1/2 Cup Cottage Cheese

  • 1/2 Medium Banana

  • 2 Cups Frozen Strawberries

  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla

  • Sweeten with a splash of maple syrup or honey if your berries are tart.

How It’s Made

  • Add all ingredients to your blender and whirl until thick and smooth.

  • Pour into pretty glasses, add a straw (these are rice straws in the photo above - they are great at first but then they become soft and split - good thing is they can go in the green bin/compost) and serve plain or garnish with some whipped coconut cream, a fresh or thawed strawberry or a sprig of mint!

Enjoy!
