Mocha Choco Overnight Oats
As seen in my article on @YorkRegion and my Metroland / Torstar Column: RENATA’S TABLE: Mocha choco overnight oats are delicious and nutritious
Overnight oats are a protein-rich, easy, versatile, delicious and nutritious way to fuel your morning with great energy. Simple as they are quickly put together the night before, versatile and delicious as you can make so many different variations to change up the flavours. As well it’s nutritious as many healthy ingredients come together to make overnight oats a wonderful option for breakfast ready and waiting in your fridge. For those who are on the run in the morning, overnight oats are a fabulous take-along grab-and-go breakfast or mid-morning snack.
This recipe mixes coffee and cocoa flavours but you can use only one or the other, or neither and substitute fresh or frozen berries. Every version is scrumptious!
Great for meal prep, double or triple the recipe to have a few breakfasts ready when you need them!
Oats are a nutrient dense, gluten free whole grain, high in fibre and protein, that provide immune and heart health support and are an effective healthy energy fuel for your body.
Cocoa and cinnamon provide powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant support, hemp hearts and all-natural peanut butter are high-quality plant-based protein sources and chia seeds support heart and gut health.
So much goodness in a jar!
Prep Time: 5 minutes / Fridge Time: Overnight / Makes: 1x 250mL Mason Jar
Ingredients
½ Cup Large Flake Oats
½ teaspoon Instant Coffee
½ teaspoon Cocoa
1½ teaspoon Hemp Hearts – optional
½ teaspoon Chia Seeds – optional
¼ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
½ Cup Milk – plant-based or dairy
1 Tablespoon Maple Syrup – or Coconut Sugar
1 teaspoon All-Natural Nut Butter – peanut butter is my favourite!
½ teaspoon Vanilla Extract
A Dollop of Plain Yogurt or Additional Milk – optional for serving
A Drizzle Additional Maple Syrup – optional for serving
How It’s Made
Add the oats, instant coffee, cocoa, hemp hearts, chia seeds (if using) and cinnamon to your jar and stir to combine.
Add in the milk, maple syrup, nut butter and vanilla and stir well to mix the wet and the dry together well.
Put the lid on the jar and place in the fridge overnight.
In the morning, the oats will have soaked up the goodness. Eat as is, or add a large dollop of plain yogurt or a splash of milk and a drizzle of maple syrup. A sprinkle of hemp hearts adds additional protein!
If you prefer warm oats, heat up the overnight oats in your microwave or in a small pot on the stovetop.
Overnight oats will keep in your fridge for 4-5 days if you make more than 1!
Enjoy!
