Taco Spice Mix

A quick and easy taco spice mix to make a batch up of to have on hand or make it fresh in a minute when tacos or other Mexican-flavoured dishes are on your lunch or dinner menu!  It’s fresher when it’s home made and less expensive than buying the commercial packets at the grocery store. As with my other spice mixes, I love how customizable this home-made spice mix is – you like it spicier, add more chili powder or add some cayenne, you want a kick, add more ginger, more garlicky, add more garlic powder! And best of all you can adjust the salt amount to how you like it (very little in our household).

Chili Powder – capsaicin, the powerful antioxidant in chili powder, flakes or the chili pepper itself, provides pain relief, helps with digestion, improves cognitive ability and supports the  immune system.

As always, when you make this recipe, I would love to see your creation so please post a photo of your Taco Spice Mix goodness and tag my IG account #RenataCollective or leave a comment with your thoughts!

Prep Time: 5 Minutes / Makes: ~1/3 cup spice mix (enough for 1 taco dinner)

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Chili Powder

  • 1 teaspoon Dried Parsley

  • 1½ teaspoon Ground Cumin

  • ½ teaspoon Smoked or Regular Paprika

  • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder (not garlic salt)

  • ½ teaspoon Onion Powder

  • ½ teaspoon Dried Oregano

  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric Powder

  • ¼ teaspoon Chili Flakes

  • ¼ teaspoon Ground Coriander

  • 1/8 teaspoon Ground Ginger

  • A few Grinds of Fresh Black Pepper

  • A pinch of Herbed Seasoned Sea Salt or Plain Sea Salt – optional

How It’s Made

  • This couldn’t be simpler!  Measure out the ingredients into a bowl (if using right away) or a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid (if doubling or tripling the recipe to have on hand) and give it a good stir or put the lid on the jar tightly and shake to mix all the ingredients together.

  • This Taco Spice Mix lends itself to so many dishes – even a sprinkle on scrambled eggs or a pinch on avocado toast – so good!

Enjoy!
