Harissa Sauce
Harissa Paste, or sauce, is a hot chili condiment that originates from North Africa. If you like spicy, then this sauce is for you! Having homemade condiments in my fridge makes me happy. I like to know what goes into what I eat and making your own ensures the best quality and your preferred levels of spiciness and salt. My harissa sauce is, like my Bang Bang Sauce, perfect to top a burger, sandwich or wrap with, with roasted veggies, dollop on meats… My version of this spicy chili sauce is easy to make and delicious! And like the Bang Bang Sauce, a little goes a long way of this fabulously flavourful spicy condiment!
As always, when you make this recipe, I would love to see your creation so please post a photo of your Harissa Sauce goodness and tag my IG account #RenataCollective or leave a comment with your thoughts!
Prep Time: 10 minutes / Cooking time: no cooking time / Makes: About 1/2 Cup
Ingredients
3 Cloves of Garlic - peeled and chopped
1 Jalapeno Pepper – cut in half, deseeded and sliced (deseeding makes the sauce slightly less spicy - keep the seeds if you like it hot)
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1½ teaspoon Hot Sauce (I like to use Frank’s)
2½ teaspoons Fresh Lemon Juice
2 teaspoons Tomato Paste
2 teaspoons White Wine Vinegar
1 teaspoon Cumin
½ teaspoon Ground Coriander
½ teaspoon Smoked Paprika
¼ teaspoon Herbamare or Sea Salt
A Few Grinds of Fresh Black Pepper
How It’s Made
In a medium bowl that will fit your Immersion Hand Blender, or in your food processor, add all the ingredients and blend until smooth. That’s it! So easy!
Store in the fridge in a jar with a tight-fitting lid.
Enjoy!
