"A vision of hope" in every tomorrow

You may have heard the expression or quote attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt:

Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why we call it 'The Present'.

I've always liked this quote as a reminder that today IS a gift and to embrace each day while doing what you need to do during the 24 gifted hours - put in your best effort at work, lovingly look after your family, tackle something on your To Do list, replenish your mind and soul doing something for yourself, like doing yoga, going for a walk, reading, creating something nourishing and delicious in your kitchen, getting good sleep at night, simply slowing down...

I came to learn of this Sanskrit poem by Kalidasa, the 4th and 5th Century AD Indian poet. Perhaps you know it already. (I wonder if Eleanor Roosevelt had read it too, or more likely, she was simply wise about this all on her own!) It provides the same message of welcoming each new day and making the most of it for YOU.

Look to this day,
for it is life, the very breath of life.
In its brief course lie
all the realities of your existence;
the bliss of growth,
the glory of action,
the splendor of beauty.
For yesterday is only a dream,
and tomorrow is but a vision.
But today, well lived,
makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
and every tomorrow
a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day.

"A vision of hope" in every tomorrow by making the most of today. How very powerful a thought for us to hold on to.

Stay healthy, happy safe and strong!
